FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State lacrosse team gathered together to celebrate their 2010-11 season and recognized four deserving student-athletes with end of the season awards.
All of the awards were selected by the team.
"There is something to be said about earning an award voted on by your teammates," interim co-head coach Carlee Buck said. "Each award means a little more."
There were four awards presented: Offensive MVP, Defensive MVP, Most Improved and the Sportsmanship Award.
Offensive MVP: Natalie Harrington
Harrington played in all 14 of the team's matches, starting 12 of them. She scored eight goals and notched seven assists to tally 15 total points. Harrington had 14 shots on goal which resulted in a .747 shot on goal percentage.
"Natalie was an offensive leader all year for us," Buck said. "We lacked upperclassmen on our offense this year and she found a way to step into that roll and was very dependable for team."
Defensive MVP: Krisdina Gehring
This marks Gehring's second time receiving the Defensive MVP award. Gehring started in all 12 matches she played in.
"Krisdina has been the core of our defense for last three seasons," Buck said. "She had a strong presence on field and was one of our strongest leaders defensively. "
Most Improved: Vanessa Swalwell
"Going from her first year to coming back this fall, Swalwell really put in the time and effort to bring herself up to speed," Buck said. "As a result of her efforts she saw a lot more playing time this year. Swalwell really came into her own this season. She is very deserving of the award."
Sportsmanship Award: Paula Badali
"Badali is one of the most positive people on our team," Buck remarked. "It was a very close vote, but Paula rose to the top because she is consistently a team player, always doing what is best for the team and supportive whether she on the field or on the sideline."
