FRESNO, Calif. - In an effort to further enhance Fresno State's "student-athlete experience," as well as more efficiently communicate with the fans and benefactors that support the program, Fresno State Director of Athletics Thomas Boeh announced minor restructuring for the department as Betsy Mosher, Paul Ladwig and Dan McLean have each been elevated to new assignments.
Mosher, formerly Fresno State's Senior Associate Athletics Director, will serve as the Deputy Director of Athletics and remain as the NCAA Senior Woman Administrator. In her expanded role, Mosher assumes formal oversight of all sport supervisors, greater supervisory capacity regarding student-athlete welfare issues, and is formally defined as the department's top administrator in the absence of the Director of Athletics.
During her nearly six-year tenure at Fresno State, Mosher's guidance has been a key component in the athletics department's unprecedented achievement by the student-athlete community in the areas of academic development , NCAA compliance, gender equity, sports medicine, strength and conditioning, and student-athlete services.
She also plays a critical role in representing the institution at the conference level and will oversee the Bulldogs' transition to the Mountain West Conference.
"Betsy's expertise and extraordinary experience has been a major force in the achievement of our original five-year mission to stabilize the athletics program and foster a new `student-athlete-centered culture' at Fresno State," Boeh said. "Her work is clearly reflected in the unprecedented success relative to our now-robust NCAA compliance program, Academic Progress Rates (APRs), gender equity and Title IX compliance, and NCAA certification without conditions. She is well prepared for this new role as Deputy Director of Athletics and I look forward to her continued leadership."
Ladwig has been promoted to Senior Associate Athletics Director for External Relations after joining the Bulldogs in 2005 as the Associate Athletics Director for External Relations and Broadcasting. In addition to continuing his previous role as a department spokesperson and oversight of advertising, communications, marketing, merchandising, licensing, ticket sales, video services and web operations, Ladwig will assume shared oversight of the Bulldog Foundation.
This reorganization allows for the integration and merging of all external communication and outreach under Ladwig's direction. Throughout his time with the Dogs, he has consistently collaborated to promote and enhance Fresno State Athletics with stronger media partnerships, the addition of a new videoboard at Bulldog Stadium and the creation of environmentally-conscious virtual team guides.
"Throughout the past several years, Paul has proven his capacity to keep our program on the leading edge of the industry relative to communication and revenue stream production," Boeh said. "It is the right time to further consolidate all communications and messaging with the Red Wave. In doing so, we will be better equipped to operate with a single voice and mission as well as address the challenge to compete financially in the Mountain West Conference."
McLean becomes the Assistant Athletics Director for Development. He replaces Coleman Barnes, who left Fresno State this month for an administrative position at the University of Alabama, Birmingham.
McLean will manage the day-to-day operation of the Bulldog Foundation, including the annual fund, major gifts and sports clubs. He will also be the administration's operational liaison with the BDF Board of Directors and assumes responsibility for the organization, which is in its sixth year of its current structure and continues to evolve.
In his previous role as Fresno State's Director of Major Gifts for the past year, McLean was a driving force behind the Bulldog Stadium FieldTurf project, other capital campaigns and significant donations for student-athlete scholarships.
McLean's experience also includes a year as the Regional Director of Development for the Oregon State University Beaver Athletic Student Fund. He received his bachelor's degree from Central Michigan University in 2004 and master's degree from Wayne State University in 2007.
"It is critical that we continue the growth and fundraising energy that has been achieved over the past few years," Boeh noted. "Dan has been an important contributor in the effort to expand and enhance the Fresno State Athletics donor base. Coming off our best two years of charitable giving and major gifts, he is well positioned to maintain the momentum."
Throughout the past two academic years (2009-10 and 2010-11), the commitment and hard work of many and the generosity of Fresno State's major donors has led Fresno State Athletics to record levels of philanthropic fundraising. These records include the number of Green V Society members as well as total dollars raised.
"The Bulldog Foundation staff has cultivated the most productive philanthropic fundraising period in the history of the Fresno State Athletics," BDF Chairman Darin Zuber said. "Thomas' vision and personnel adjustments will certainly help us to prepare for competition among the highest levels of the Mountain West. For a while now we have observed and benefitted from Paul Ladwig's expertise, leadership and commitment to Fresno State, and Dan McLean has clearly displayed the skills and passion necessary to assume a key administrative role. Paul and Dan have the full support of the BDF Board in their new roles and we are confident that the recent momentum built toward philanthropic fundraising will grow even more under their guidance."
