Norway Native Swims to First

FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State's Heidi Gjoen (Oslo, Norway) snatched the Women's 100m backstroke title this summer during the 2011 Norway Long Course Championships in Drammen, Norway.
For the past three summers Norway native, Gjoen, has made the trip home to train, practice, and compete for her country and a national title.
Gjoen competed on the second day of the championships in the Women's 100m backstroke swimming fast for a first place finish. She swam the winning race with a time of 1: 05:57. This is Gjoen's first long course national title in the 100m backstroke.
Gjoen has tallied up quite the list of first place finishes at the 2011 Long Course Championships.
Her 2011 100m backstroke title will be added to her 2010: 200m backstroke title, her 400 medley relay and 800 free relay titles, 2009: 200m backstroke title and 2008: 400 medley relay title. Not to mention her March 2009 short course titles in 100m and 200m backstroke.
With great annual success in the Norway Championships, the Fresno State swimmer has also been very successful as a Bulldog. As a top competitor in the Western Athletic Conference, Gjoen has continually improved her times in the backstroke and has broken Fresno State swimming records in both backstroke and relays.
This outstanding swimmer is preparing for her senior season as a Bulldog and will be ready to compete when the 'Dogs open the Fresno State Aquatics Center this fall.
