FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State swimming and diving lined up in a red and blue swimsuit order, held hands, and on the count of three by head coach Jeanne Fleck the 'Dogs took a giant leap and made a big splash into their new home pool.
The Bulldogs have waited patiently to have a home facility on the Fresno State Campus and you could see it in their faces just how excited they were to soak in the water.
"It was a great, wonderful day to see the joy on the faces as the girls jumped in the pool," said Fleck. "To know that they can just practice here and don't have to drive in the vans every morning is great and that this is their home. It was a wonderful day!"
Once the `Dogs were completely emerged in the water one swimmer used an underwater video camera to take some footage of them in their new home course. The coaches and staff were taking pictures and the players were taking video, with a very cheerful atmosphere and smiles all around.
"I was really excited to jump in the pool and it's nice to finally have a place we can call our own," said swimmer Dani Yoho.
The divers were bouncing on their boards breaking them in and getting the feel for their home venue. Some did dives and some were doing cannonballs into the clear blue water.
"It's been a long time coming and just to be at the pool and on the boards is awesome," said diver Hannah Prigge. "I can't wait for this season."
The swimming and diving team starts using the facilities this week and will be preparing for their home opener at the brand new Fresno State Aquatics Center on October 22 as they take on cross-town team Fresno Pacific.
