FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State volleyball team came out passing well and swinging hard against Seattle University Saturday night and recorded an impressive season-high .276 team hitting percentage.
"Our passing recovered nicely tonight," head coach Lauren Netherby-Sewell said. "Marissa, Cecilia and Korrin adjusted and gave us the ability to run our offense."
After battling through the first set, the 'Dogs took charge at the net and were firing from all angles in sets two and three to secure the win (26-24, 25-19, 25-18).
Junior Marissa Brand led the way with a match-high 12 kills bringing her double-digit kill streak to 11 matches in a row. Cecilia Agraz supplied good ball control with a team-high seven digs and added aggressive swings on the outside to record seven kills.
Sophomore Kristen Sciacca transitioned to the right side to provide a large block and added six kills. Newcomer Maci Murdock, who performed well in the middle, contributed four kills.
The setting duo of Barbara Alcantara and Christina Lee tossed up 18 and 19 assists on the night, respectively. With steady passing and a persistent defensive effort the Bulldogs worked together and brought the ball control needed to effectively attack against the Redhawks.
"We're going to build off this win and keep improving our ability to execute a match plan while playing our game," said Netherby-Sewell.
The 'Dogs are now 4-4 on the season and are looking to improve their record next weekend as they continue their eight-match non-conference road trip in Las Vegas to take on Baylor, UNLV and San Francisco.
