Lies and Ly Off to Solid Start

FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State women's golf team opened up their season Monday at the Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic in Fort Collins, Colo. The Bulldogs shot a 29-over (302-303--605) to sit in a tie for ninth out of 19 teams after the first day of competition at the 6,302 yard, par-72 Ptarmigan Country Club.
Freshman Madchen Ly, playing in her first collegiate tournament, fired a 2-over, 146 (73-73) to tie with teammate Louisa Lies for 12th place. Ly, a native of Clovis, Calif., sunk four birdies, three of which were during the second round. She did not record a bogie on the front nine during either round.
Lies, a senior from Weinheim, Germany, recorded seven birdies on the day, twice on both the par-3, 166 yard fourth and par-4, 362 yard ninth. Lies opened the tournament with an even-par, 72 and then shot a 2-over, 74 to end the day at 2-over, 146.
Junior Shaylee Yano (78-78--156) finished in 67th at 12-over with fellow `Dog Hillary Billingsley (79-78---157) right behind in a tie for 68th place. Sophomore Krysta Clark (81-80--161) shot a 17-over to sit in 84th place.
UC Davis (286-289--575) will head into the final day of competition with the team lead at 1-under. Colorado (289-287--576) is one shot back at even-par. Demi Runas (66-71--137) of UC Davis is in the individual lead at 7-under with Hayley Davis (69-70--139) of Baylor close behind with a 5-under.
The Bulldogs will return to action Tuesday to compete in the final round of the Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic with a tee time of 7:30 a.m. PST. Follow live scoring at Golfstat.com with a reacap to follow at gobulldogs.com.
