FRESNO, Calif. - In Alexis Edwards' debut tournament as interim head coach, she had two golfers, Louisa Lies and Madchen Ly, finish in the top 30 out of the 100 golfers that competed at the Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic in Fort Collins, Colo. The Bulldogs (302-303-318--923, +30) placed 14th out of 19 teams at the par-72, 6,302-yard Ptarmigan Country Club.
Edwards, a former collegiate golfer and graduate of BYU, took the reins of the women's golf team as head coach Angie Cates-Moore went on maternity leave for the fall 2011 season.
Lies led the Bulldogs with a 7-over, 223 (72-74-77) to finish in a tie for 23rd and Ly, a freshman from Clovis High, tied for 29th with a 9-over, 225 (73-73-79).
Junior Shaylee Yano (78-78-82--238, +22) placed in a tie for 74th while sophomores Hillary Billingsley (79-78-84--241) and Krysta Clark (81-80-80--241) both tied for 81st at 25-over. All three teammates recorded two birdies each on the day.
UC Davis (286-289-298--873) captured the team title by shooting a 9-over with Illinois (292-287-296--875) and Colorado (289-287-299--875) right behind in a tie for second at 11-over. Demi Runas (66-71-74--211, -5) of UC Davis held off Hayley Davis (66-71-74--211, -2) of Baylor to take home the individual title.
The Bulldogs return to action Sept. 26-27 when they travel to Aurora, Ore. to compete in the Rose City Collegiate hosted by Oregon State.
