Double Invites Go Well For Bulldogs

FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State men and women's cross country teams competed in two separate invitationals on Saturday, Sept. 24. The women's team competed at the Roadrunner Invite hosted in Bakersfield, Calif. The top 'Dogs competed in Stanford, Calif. for one of the toughest competitions in California.
Freshman, Lyndsie Etherton ran a 6K at Stanford in a time of 21:39 and Ann Poythress finished in a time of 21:46.
"The women started out well and our top two finished strong and that was really good for Lyndsie and Ann. I was really pleased with them and Pamela did a good job as well. Lyndsie went out really fast and kept up with some of the top runners in the nation which is awesome for a true freshman," coach Sean McManus said.
Paul Zwama led the Bulldogs in the 8K race at Stanford finishing with a time of 24:46. Eric Battles followed (24:47), Carson Keller (25:24), Olivier Bernard (26:04), Kevin Poythress (26:06), Michael Jamieson (26:32), and Chriss Grimble (26:46).
"Our first three guys did what we asked them to do and we need to get the second half ready for next weekend. We will practice hard this week and make corrections to make sure all seven guys are ready to go," said McManus.
Pamela Cruz (22:37), Kristen Galvez (22:53), Saylah Barserian (23:06), Marrijtje Molenhuis (23:09),and Carina Mendoza (23:20) also competed in Stanford this weekend.
A number of the Fresno State women's team competed at the Roadrunner Invitational in Bakersfield, Calif. Bulldog Stevie Brumwell finished first in the 5K with a time of 18:56 and Alyson De La Rosa finished 4th with a time of 19:45.
"Our challenge for this group was to come away with an individual victory and to gain some personal records. We had a lot of middle distance runners compete and getting the type of results we did shows strength," McManus said.
Deanna Ribeiro came in 5th (18:45.4), Allison Gonzales in 9th (20:18.9), Brijon Menefield 10th (20:57.1), Marcela Murillo (21:40.5), Meghan Dela Torre (21:48.2), Kelly Duffy (21:53.8), Latrisha Jordan (22:19), Alexandria Gambala (22:24.4), Ann Taylor (22:52.2), Breeauna Thompson (24:19.4), Katherine Wells (24:39.4), Kaitlynn Castaneda (26:39.2), Sarah Una'Dia (27:33.7), and Taylor Jackson (27:34).
