'Dogs Sting Hornets, Fall To Aggies

FRESNO, Calif. - The Bulldogs wrapped up their season opening weekend with a win in Dover, Del. against Delaware State defeating them 9-6, after falling to Texas A&M 12-2 earlier in the morning.
The weekend was packed with great competition and provided the Bulldogs with good experience they can use throughout the season as they continue to travel.
The Bulldogs came to ride this afternoon, terminating the Hornets 9-6 wrapping up their season opening weekend with three MVP honors.
Holly Elsbernd took the only win in Equitation on the Flat for Fresno State scoring an event-high score of 78 and scored an event-high 83 in Equitation over Fences earning Elsbernd her first MVP honor of the season.
Kimberly Steinbuch earned the MVP honor for the Equitation on the Flat event with a score of 71.
Hillary West and Kimberly Hewson Budnik also scored points in the Equitation over Fences giving the 'Dogs a 3-1 victory in the event.
Lauren Crivelli earned a win in both Horsemanship and Reining. Sammie Jo Stone and Rio Haack also earned wins in Horsemanship with Haack receiving her first MVP honor of the season as well.
Senior captain Shawna McClurg wrapped up the Reining event with a win recording a high score of 71.
In the morning competition Fresno State's Kimberly Hewson Budnik and Christa Beezley were to two riders to earn points for the Bulldogs.
Senior Hewson Budnik rode very well recording a high score of 81 in Equitation on the Flat earning her the lone MVP honor for Fresno State. She defeated Elizabeth Solch of Texas A&M to earn the only English point for the Bulldogs.
Sophomore Beezley defeated Caroline Ammons with a high score of 71 in Horsemanship. This was the only point scored for the 'Dogs in the western seat competition.
The equestrian team's next competition will be against Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas on Thursday, Sept. 29.
