`Dogs Open 2012 with a Win

ARLINGTON, Texas - The Fresno State women's basketball team started 2012 off just like the ended 2011... with a win.
"It felt good to start the year off with a win," said senior Blakely Goldberg. "We haven't played in a couple weeks, so it was nice to get back on the court. We started slow, but halfway into the first half we found our speed, settled down and started playing our game."
The Bulldogs defeated UT Arlington 78-48 on Tuesday night and improves to 11-3 on the season. Sophomore Ki-Ki Moore led the team with 25 points, which is three shy of her career-high. She also recorded seven steals and six boards.
Fresno State dominated the second half by scoring 37 points and allowed the Mavericks to score only 17 points in the second half. The Bulldogs also forced the Mavs to turn the ball over 35 times, which resulted in 41 points for the `Dogs.
Goldberg added 13 points and three assists. Freshman Madison Parrish made her first career start in a Bulldog uniform and scored nine points and had five steals. Preseason All-WAC selection Taylor Thompson recorded a team-high eight assists.
The `Dogs fell behind by five points early before going on a 14-2 run and took its first lead of the game at 15:27 mark. Moore aided the run by causing the Mavericks to turn the ball over in two consecutive possessions.
Fresno State pulled ahead of UTA with a 17-6 run led by Moore's seven points. The Mavericks came back within three points before the Bulldogs bounced back by scoring nine unanswered points and gained a double-digit lead.
Late in the first half, Moore went on an 8-0 run to put the `Dogs ahead by 16 with 3:39 left in the first half. Fresno State ended the first half with a 41-31 lead over UTA. Moore led the team with 21 points and six steals in the first half.
The Bulldogs came back from the halftime break with a 13-2 run and their lead grew to 21 points over UTA with 15 minutes left in the game. The `Dogs extended their lead to 28 over the Mavericks with 12 minutes left on the clock.
Fresno State had a 30 point lead late in the second half, which was the largest lead of the night. The Bulldogs won its 11th game of the season over UT Arlington 78-48.
The Bulldogs finish the road trip in Jan. 6 against UNLV at 7 p.m. Fresno State hosts Seattle University on Jan. 11 at noon in its first home game of 2012.
