Bulldogs Fall to UNLV, 73-71

LAS VEGAS - The Fresno State women's basketball team closed out its first road trip of 2012 with a heartbreaking loss to UNLV. The Bulldogs led at half time before falling to the Lady Rebels 73-71 in the final seconds.
The Bulldogs(11-4, 0-0 WAC) had a chance to tie the game with less than a second on the clock as freshman Madison Parrish was fouled while shooting a 3-pointer. Parrish finished the game with a career-high 17 points. She also had four rebounds and two assists.
"We didn't execute like we needed to in the second half." Said head coach Adrian Wiggins. "Give them credit they did well late in the game. It was a good game from a fan's perspective."
One possession separated the Bulldogs and Lady Rebels for the first six minutes of the game. UNLV pulled ahead with an 8-0 run and led 21-13 with 11:38 in the half. The Lady Rebels largest lead of the night was by eight points.
The Bulldogs came out of a timeout and went on 6-0 run closing in on the Lady Rebels and trailed by two points with 9:26 remaining.
Moore hit her second trey of the night to tie the game at 30-30 with 3:29 left in the half. The sophomore led the team with 18 points and nine rebounds. Another Thompson 3-pointer ignited a 15-3 run to end the half and gave the `Dogs a 41-33 lead heading into half time.
In the first half, the Bulldogs shot 50 percent from 3-point range making 8-of-16 treys. The `Dogs finished the night with a total of 13 3-pointers. Parrish led the Bulldogs with 11 first half points, while Moore led with five rebounds.
UNLV tied the game 51-51 with a 9-0 run with under 10 minutes remaining in the game. It came down to one possession in the final minutes of the game. Fresno State held on to the lead by two points with two minutes left on the clock.
The Lady Rebels regained the lead after Lenita Sanford knocked down two free throws. Moore answered by hitting two free throws of her own to tie the game up at 70-70 with 54 seconds. UNLV took the lead after Mia Bell made a layup with 30 seconds left in the game.
Fresno State trailed by three points with 5.4 seconds. Parrish was fouled as she attempted to shot a three to tie the game. The freshman made 1-of-3 free throws as the `Dogs fell to UNLV 73-71.
The Bulldogs host Seattle University on Wednesday, Jan. 11 at NOON in their first game of 2012 in the Save Mart Center. Fresno State also opens Western Athletic Conference play on Jan. 14 at 2 p.m. against Nevada in the SMC.
