FRESNO, Calif.- The Fresno State women's lacrosse team has been giving back to the community since the program started three years ago.
The team has been a leader for the athletic department by winning three straight Director of Athletics Community Service Awards and new head coach Jessica Pausewang wants to keep that tradition going.
"We were really excited to get the opportunity to go to to Herndon-Barstow Elementary school and it was exciting for the kids because, they get to learn what lacrosse is and we are trying to help it grow in this area," Pausewang said.
The Bulldogs work year round with Tim Anderson's kindergarten class at Herndon-Barstow Elementary by finding interactive ways to stay connected throughout the school year.
They exchanged Christmas cards this past winter and the team receives good luck notes from the students before every home game. They will also be sending and receiving Valentine's Day cards and perform arts and crafts activities with each visit.
"The girls love interacting with the kids and not only teaching them about lacrosse but about athletics and that way they can continue to stay active and be excited about going to school," Pausewang said.
As the 'Dogs enter their fourth season as a program they continue to help spread the sport of lacrosse throughout the Valley and give back to the community in positive ways.
