San Diego, Calif. - The Fresno State women's lacrosse team battled Cincinnati in their season opener in San Diego, but missed too many shots losing 17-12 at the Aztec Lacrosse Field on Sunday morning.
Sophomore Kara Concheck delivered a solid effort as she led the Bulldogs with four goals, one assist and one ground ball. Freshman Marcy Levatino helped Fresno State from the midfield scoring the first goal and finishing the game with two goals and two ground balls.
Katie Wilbur had 14 saves and allowed 17 goals while creating some amazing turnovers for the 'Dogs.
"Katie played phenomenal in goal for us today. The defense supported her really well," said Head Coach Jessica Pausewang. "She was amazing between the pipes and saw the ball really well today."
The Bulldogs were down by one goal heading into the second half and Cincinnati came back out and stretched the lead by five points until Callie Seidman scored for the 'Dogs.
Fresno State pulled within two goals with 11:18 remaining to play but it got no closer. Concheck scored the last goal of the game with 1:24 left.
The Bulldogs take a three week break before competing against another non-conference east coast team, New Hampshire on March, 14.
