CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. - The Fresno State softball team dropped a pair of games Friday to Ohio State and Iowa in its second day at the Cathedral City Classic.
Fresno State (8-5) was sunk by a three-run homer in the sixth inning during the 3-0 loss to Ohio State Friday morning before falling 7-1 to Iowa in game two.
The Bulldogs recorded just one hit in the loss to Ohio State, which was the second-straight game that Fresno State was held without a run.
Freshman Michelle Solomon hit a solo home run in the bottom of the second against Iowa, but Fresno State could not produce another run in the game. Iowa led 2-0 heading into the seventh inning where it put the game away with five more runs.
Solomon's home run was her second in as many days.
Senior pitcher Michelle Moses drew the loss in both games. One day after throwing a no-hitter and posting 17 strikeouts against Iowa State, she gave up the one home run to Ohio State. That was her only blemish on what was another great performance in the circle for her. The homer ended Moses' scoreless innings pitched streak at 24.1 innings.
Moses finished with five strikeouts and six hits allowed against Ohio State.
Moses came back in the second game and allowed just one hit in four innings, but two runs came home on her, one of which was unearned. Fresno State committed three errors against Iowa and finished with six hits, but was unable to group them together to produce the runs it's been missing.
Sophomore infielder Stesha Brazil continues to lead the `Dogs at the plate. She was 2-for-5 in the two games on Friday with two walks and now is batting a team-best .368 on the year. She has 14 hits, four doubles and five RBIs in 13 games.
Fresno State concludes the 2012 Cathedral City Classic on Saturday with a 12:30 p.m. game against No. 7 UCLA.
