FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State softball team concludes an eight-game home stand on Tuesday when the `Dogs host Butler and Purdue at Bulldog Diamond.
Fresno State (16-9) plays Butler (4-11) first at 6 p.m. followed by the Boilermakers (12-6) at 8 p.m. Purdue and the Butler Bulldogs will play one another at 3:30 p.m. before Fresno State takes the field.
Fans can listen to Fresno State's game against UConn at 8 p.m., as ESPN2 790 AM is broadcasting it with Andrew Hayne calling the action.
In last weekend's Bayer CropScience Classic that Fresno State hosted, the Bulldogs beat Butler 9-1 in five innings and topped Purdue 6-1.
Fresno State used an eight-hit, seven-run fifth inning to induce the mercy rule in the win over BU. Against Purdue, the `Dogs out-hit the Boilermakers 10-3 and only gave up one unearned run.
These two games serve as the final tune-up before Fresno State heads to the challenging Judi Garman Classic in Fullerton, Calif. over the weekend. There the `Dogs will face No. 5 Arizona State (25-2), No. 11 Louisiana who has tied its best start in program history at 22-0, along with games against Virginia, DePaul and Penn State.
For the season, Fresno State has outscored its opponent 113-67 and opposing teams are hitting just .200 against the Bulldogs.
Sophomores Stesha Brazil and Brooke Ortiz along with freshman Brenna Moss are leading the team at the plate this year. Brazil has a team-best .364 batting average and is tied for second on the team with 15 runs scored and 15 driven in.
Ortiz is hitting .348 on the year and .472 over her last 12 games while Moss is at .326 on the season with four triples, 13 RBIs and 15 runs scored.
Senior Michelle Moses' 10 home runs are three more than any other player has in the WAC this year and she has hit 51 for her career. Moses is one of three players in WAC history to hit 50-plus home runs in a career and ranks second in school history behind Christina Clark's 62 from 2003-06.
