How it happenedÂ
Game 1: GCU 4, Fresno State 1
Lauryn Carranco opened the inning with two strikeouts, but Lopes managed a run to take the lead at the start. Emma Martinez was the first 'Dog to reach base off a single to left field.Â
Bulldog got their next shot at a run in the bottom of the second with bases loaded and Emma Martinez up to bat. Martinez was walked bringing in Mallory Vancleave, for the 'Dogs only run of the game.Â
Grand Canyon responded, using a two-run home run in the second to reclaim the lead. The Lopes added another run on a solo home run in the sixth to extend their advantage to 4-1.
Fresno State put multiple runners aboard in the second and again in the seventh but came up empty in both frames. In the circle, Lauryn Carranco went the distance, striking out five over seven innings. Â

Bulldogs collected eight hits in the afternoon, including multi-hit performances from Jamie Hicks, Rylee Bocchini and Martinez, but stranded six runners and were shut out for the first time in conference play.
Fresno State threatened early, recording hits in each of the first four innings. Bulldogs' put two aboard in the first and added multiple base runners again in the second and third, but Grand Canyon pitching worked out of each jam to keep the game scoreless.
Lopes struck first in the opening inning with a run on two hits, built separation with single runs in the third and sixth and a decisive three-run fourth frame.
In the circle, freshman Alyssa Loza got the start and worked 3.1 innings, while Alyssa Ramirez provided 3.2 innings of relief, allowing just one run to stabilize the game.Â
