`Dogs Overcome by Waves

FRESNO, Calif. - The No. 55 Fresno State women's tennis team lost to No. 45 Pepperdine in a 4-3 decision Saturday morning at the Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center.
The Bulldogs (7-6, 2-0 WAC) were swept by the Waves (6-6) at all doubles positions to slump into an early 1-0 deficit in the match. The closest match up was at the No. 1 spot where Pepperdine's 57th-ranked doubles team bested sophomore Marianne Jodoin and junior Olga Kirpicheva, 8-2.
In singles, the `Dogs dropped three matches quickly to Pepperdine which clinched the Waves' team win. No. 50-ranked singles player, Jodoin lost her first match in straight sets of the season to Pepperdine's 94th-ranked player Khunpak Issara, 6-2, 6-2, at the No. 1 spot.
The Bulldogs three victories came from the two, four and six spots after Pepperdine clinched the match. Sophomore Tanya Murtagh earned the first win of the day at No. 6 when she bested Megan Moore, 6-3, 1-6, 6-2. Freshman Aishwarya Agrawal adjusted nicely in the No. 2 position with her victory over Pepperdine's 123rd-ranked singles player Lorraine Granillo, 3-6, 6-2, 7-6 (3). Junior Melissa McQueen wrapped up the match for the `Dogs with her, 6-2, 1-6, 6-3, win over Arianna Colffer at No. 4 singles.
The Bulldogs return to courts Sunday morning to face-off against Pacific at noon at the Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center.
