'Dogs Improve at Spartan Invite

FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State women's golf team recorded the fourth lowest score during the final round of the Juli Inkster Spartan Invitational to finish in seventh place out of 12 teams at the Almaden Golf and Country Club. The tournament, hosted by San Jose State, experienced high, consistent winds throughout the day.
"It was good to see the team bounce back and finish strong," head coach Angie Cates-Moore said. "The weather actually helped us get back into the tournament."The Bulldogs out shot No. 25 UC Davis by two strokes and tied with No. 13 Washington at 23-over, 311.
Sophomore Christine Uhalde, coming off winning the individual title in her last tournament, led the 'Dogs with the top round of the day with a 4-over, 76. She moved up 10 positions to finish in 28th place.
"Christine had a great round today," Cates-Moore said. "She is really playing consistent and has a lot of confidence."
The 'Dogs were once again paced by freshman Madchen Ly who had the overall top score of 16-over to end the tournament in a tie for 25th. She fired an eagle on the 495-yard, par-5 seventh hole, the only one recorded on the day and the first since the opening round.
Senior Louisa Lies finished in a tie for 32nd at 20-over while Shaylee Yano and Alison Timlin ended in 45th and 60th, respectively. Krysta Clark, competing as an individual, recorded a 33-over which was good for 56th place.
No. 23 California cruised to the team title at 15-over while Joanne Lee of Cal jumped teammate Daniela Holmqvist to claim the individual title at 2-under.
The Bulldogs will return home to host the Fresno State Lexus Classic next Monday and Tuesday, March 12-13, at Copper River Country Club and it is open to the public.
"We will work hard to get ready for our home tournament," Cates-Moore concluded. "We hope that we have a lot of people come out and support us."
