`Dogs Fall to No. 7 Miami

CORAL GABLES, Fla. - The No. 49 Fresno State women's tennis team fell, 5-2, to No. 7 Miami on Wednesday, at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center in Florida.
The start of the match looked promising for the Bulldogs when they clinched the double point and earned an early 1-0 lead over the Hurricanes. At No. 2 doubles, Bianca Modoc and Aishwarya Agrawal defeated the 37th-ranked duo Gabriela Mejia and Lina Lileikite, 8-6. The Bulldogs clinched the doubles point at No. 3 when Melissa McQueen and Olga Kirpicheva bested Anna Bartenstein and Brittany Dubins, 9-7.
Unfortunately the lead did not last long. Miami battled back in singles action, taking five straight matches. Laura Pola fell to Bolivar with a 6-3, 6-1 loss at No. 5 singles. At No. 2 Agrawal suffered a 6-2, 6-3 loss to No. 26-ranked singles player, Mejia. At No.3 Kirpicheva fell to No.110 Lilekite, 7-5, 6-1, and at the No. 3 spot McQueen fell to Melissa Bolivar, 6-1, 7-5 respectively.
The `Dogs only singles point came from non-other than 49th-ranked singles player Marianne Jodoin who defeated 18th-ranked Anna Bartenstein,4-6, 5-3, 10-7. The match ended at No. 6 where Tanya Murtagh withdrew to Brittany Dubins due to injury after Dubins won the first set 6-4.
The `Dogs continue their stint in the Sunshine State against Florida International on Friday.
