FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State head volleyball coach Lauren Netherby-Sewell announced the addition of an alumni match to the 2012 schedule. The current Bulldogs will play former Bulldog stars on Aug. 18 at 1 p.m. in the Save Mart Center.
The current `Dogs will take a break from their fall camp schedule to play in a fun match with former teammates and Bulldogs. The 2012 team returns 12 student-athletes and six starters from last season's squad that finished in fourth place.
"An alumni match is a great chance for our history and present to meet, reunite and do again what we all love to do - play," said Netherby-Sewell. "When a student-athlete gives their time and energy to a program within a university for four or five years in what was likely a very important time in their lives - the commitment should always be appreciated and recognized. The experience is so deep and impossible to replicate. They should always feel welcome and at home to come back."
The event is free and open to the public to watch and there will be a post-match gathering for the alumni following the match. Former Bulldogs look for an evite to becoming or log on to the volleyball Facebook page for more information. Any alumni that are interested in playing in the match or just want to watch their fellow alumni should contact Netherby-Sewell at lnsewell@csufresno.edu or respond on Facebook saying `I would like to play or I'm just watching.'
"I'm looking forward to seeing everyone again and hopefully watching our group of alumni grow and come back to get in touch with Bulldog Volleyball again," said Netherby-Sewell. "I love seeing people play for the fun of it. It's also a great chance for our current team to get a break from our grueling fall camp, head into the Save Mart Center and compete early on."
