SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Fresno State's Stesha Brazil led the `Dogs offense on Saturday after launching two home runs as Bulldog softball lost 11-3 to No. 7 Missouri and 5-2 to UC Santa Barbara. The `Dogs are 6-5 on the season.
Brazil tallied four RBI on her two home runs against the Tigers. The junior tied her career-high of two home runs in a single-game, which she did last year against Butler. She also tied her career best of four RBI in a single-game.
"Although we lost, our intensity and offense is picking up," said Brazil. "We are starting to swing more aggressively, but under control. We have a young team and we are learning more with each game."
The Bulldogs amassed 14 hits on the day with Brazil and Michelle Solomon recording multi-hit games against Missouri and UC Santa Barbara, respectively. Solomon also had a multi-hit game against the Tigers as she went -2-for-2 in both games on Saturday.
UC Santa Barbara scored first in the first inning taking an early 1-0 lead over the Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs scattered six hits against UCSB. Moss opened the day with a single in the first inning and Solomon hit a double to left center in the second inning.
The Gauchos added three more runs in the third inning off a home run to left field increasing their lead 4-0 over the `Dogs. A solo home run in the fifth inning gave the Gauchos a 5-0 lead.
Sophomore Maria Sio drove in two runs for the Bulldogs with a double to the left field fence in the top of the sixth inning. Sio's two RBI double cut the Gauchos lead 5-2 and the rally was cut short as the `Dogs lost to UCSB.
Brazil crushed her third home run of the season in the first inning against Missouri. Brazil's home run gave the `Dogs a 1-0 lead over the nationally ranked Tigers.
Missouri answered in the next half inning scoring the tying run on a solo home run to left field. The Tigers took the lead 5-1 by scoring four runs on four hits in the top of the third inning.
Brazil hit another home run to deep left field in the third inning as the `Dogs trailed the Tigers 5-3. She leads the team with four homers on the year and two against No. 7 Missouri.
The Tigers added a run in fourth inning on a single up the middle, which increased their lead to 6-3 over the Bulldogs. Mizzou's lead grew to 11-3 after scoring five runs on three home runs in the fifth inning.
