`Dogs Fall Short in First MPSF Matchup

DENVER-The Fresno State lacrosse team dropped its first Mountain Pacific Sports Federation game at Denver on Sunday morning, falling 18-7.
"I think as a team we have improved upon where we were this time last year," said head coach Jessica Pausewang. "Denver is a strong team and I thought we really capitalized on the opportunities that we had."
Senior Paula Badali led Fresno State with three goals. Anjelica Fuccillo, Kara Concheck and Holly Cisneros added one goal a piece in the team effort.
With a goal and two assists, Marcy Levatino combined for three points for the second game in a row.
Katie Wilbur stepped up in cage for the `Dogs with 17 saves, breaking the Fresno State record for most saves in a single game. Of Denver's 46 shots, the team only gave up 18 goals.
"I think as a whole we are going to refocus and get ready for our next game," said Pausewang. "I think we have a good starting place for the rest of season."
After wrapping up their four game road streak to start the 2013 season, Fresno State stands at 1-3. The `Dogs return to Bulldog Stadium for their home opener hosting MPSF opponent California on March 19 at 5 p.m.
