FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State women's lacrosse head coach Jessica Giglio has announced the signings of Sarah Bloise, Emily Miller, Angie Saladino and Natalie Yorba for the 2016 season.
"As a whole, this class will bring strong character and mental toughness to our team," Giglio said. "We look forward to continuing to grow as a program, and with our returners combined with these freshmen, we will no doubt be contending in conference and non-conference."
Bloise, a native of Davis, Calif., was named first-team all-conference and was the Delta League Player of the Year last season as she led Davis Senior High School to an 11-1 record. The midfielder captained Davis and was named the team's Offensive MVP.
Giglio's comments on Bloise…
"Sarah's ability to get and maintain possession on the draw will be a major factor for us next year. She will elevate our physicality as a team and I look forward to her tenacious attitude on the field."
Miller, a native of Monument, Colo., was named First-Team All-State and Academic Honorable Mention in 2014 for Palmer Ridge. Playing both in the midfield and in the defense, she tallied 34 points (17 goals, 17 assists) last season, while winning 82 faceoffs and producing 16 takeaways and 29 groundballs. In 2013, she was named to the all-conference second team.
Giglio's comments on Miller…
"Emily is a strong player who has a lot to offer all over the field. She is great at draw controls and will bring speed to us on defense."
A member of the Mid-Atlantic National Team, Saladino has helped the Collegiate School in Richmond, Va., win three LIS championships and finish second in the state. Last season, she received the Coaches Award. A multi-sport athlete, she is a captain for both her basketball and volleyball teams.
Giglio's comments on Saladino…
"Angie is an amazing team defender. She sees the attack and knows how to break it down. Her size and speed will be greatly welcomed on our defensive unit."
A two-time Second-Team All-CIF and First-Team Palomar League selection, Yorba has been an integral part on two league championships and one second-place finish in the state which came in 2012. In 2013 and 2014, she earned the honor of being awarded as the Most Valuable Defender.
Giglio's comments on Yorba…
"Natalie is a talented and fast defender. She is aggressive and poised and will be a huge asset for us in transition."
