BAKERSFIELD, Calif. --- When the game was on the line, the Fresno State men's basketball team dug deep and rallied for a hard-fought 63-61 road win at Bakersfield in the Icardo Center on Saturday night.
Fresno State (3-6) used a season-high 29 points by junior guard Marvelle Harris, who also added six rebounds, five assists and a perfect 10-for-10 clip at the free throw line, to fend off the Roadrunners for the Bulldogs' first road win of the season.
With the game tied at 61-61, Bakersfield was assessed an administrative technical foul when CSUB guard Dashawn Richmond asked for a desperation timeout when nearly traveling. But the Roadrunners were out of timeouts for the second half, so the Bulldogs were able to send the steady hands of their team captain - Harris - who calmly hit the pair of go-ahead free throws.
Fresno State freshman Terrell Carter II blocked CSUB's Aly Ahmed's potentially game-tying jumper on the next possession. Carter was fouled, missed both free throws, but Richmond couldn't hit a buzzer-beating 3-pointer in the final seconds.
Fresno State's Julien Lewis scored 11 points and Emmanuel Owootoah added eight, including two 3-pointers.
Richmond led the Roadrunners (1-7) with 20 points and Ahmed finished with 15.
Fresno State overcame a nine-point first-half deficit and held a 25-24 lead over CSUB at halftime. The two teams were whistled for a combined 49 fouls.
