FRESNO, Calif. - Looking ahead to the Fresno State Volleyball Team's second week of home action, fans can listen live to matches this Thursday and Saturday on the radio at 790 AM ESPN "The Deuce".
Christian Lukens returns to call the action this week vs. Nevada (3-9, 0-2) on Oct. 2 at 7 p.m., and San Jose State (3-12, 0-2) on Oct. 4 at 4 p.m.
In the next two months, four other remaining home matches at the Save Mart Center will also be aired live vs. San Diego State (Thursday, Oct. 23), Colorado State (Thursday, Nov. 6), Boise State (Thursday, Nov. 13) and New Mexico (Friday, Nov. 21).
The Rams are 2013 NCAA Tournament returnees and also advanced to the postseason in 2012 with San Diego State; New Mexico has received national poll votes this year; and Boise State and the `Dogs have played exciting five-set matches in 11 of their last 13 meetings (while the other two were four-set affairs).
The `Dogs (5-11, 0-2) are in middle of their seventh season under head coach Lauren Netherby-Sewell who guided the team to their first back to back winning seasons in 2012 (18-13) and `13 (17-15) since 2003 and `04. Similarly, their fourth-place conference finish last fall cemented their first hat trick of top-four league efforts since 2001-04.
Last Tuesday, the `Dogs opened their home slate with a 3-0 win over Fresno Pacific in front of a crowd of 1,784 - the team's biggest Save Mart Center crowd since the same match in 2010 (2,664). That home attendance was also the third-biggest in her tenure (while the best came vs. the Sunbirds in 2008 - 3,002).
Large crowds are also expected to be on hand this week to take advantage of a host of ticket and marketing promotions.
Thursday night's 7 p.m. contest is Breast Cancer Awareness Night, and fans wearing pink receive FREE admission, while breast cancer survivors will be honored throughout the match.
Saturday's 4 p.m. match is Community Night, and fans wearing their official Step Up For Down's Syndrome or Wiggle Waggle Walk t-shirts from earlier in the day receive FREE admission. Throughout the match, fans will also have the opportunity to adopt a Valley Animal Center dog.
