SAN JOSE, Calif. --- Bulldogs' sophomore Paul Watson scored 19 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead the Fresno State men's basketball team to a 73-62 win over San Jose State and extend its winning streak to four on Wednesday night.
Junior guards Marvelle Harris and Cezar Guerrero, who made his season debut, added 15 points apiece for the Bulldogs (9-9, 4-1 Mountain West). Karachi Edo chipped in 10. As a team, Fresno State hit 52 percent from the field overall and 75 percent from the line.
Fresno State jumped out to an 11-2 start and led 32-30 at halftime. The Bulldogs' sophomore point guard Emmanuel Owootoah led an even greater defensive intensity in the second half.
"Emmanuel was a difference maker for the game in the way with his defense along and how he changed the pace of play in the second half," Fresno State head coach Rodney Terry said of Owootoah, who also scored nine points all coming in the first half.
The Bulldogs extended their lead to 45-37 on a 13-7 run to kick off the second half and took it to 63-44 on a 12-5 run midway highlighted by a pair of 3-pointers by Guerrero and another by Watson. Edo finished off the Spartans (2-15, 0-5) with a pair of dunks in the final three minutes.
"We know every night in this league that you are going to have a competitive game whether you are at home or on the road," Terry said. "We haven't changed our approach. We just know that every night we need to compete at a very high level."
Rashad Muhammad led San Jose State with 16 points. Jaleel Williams added 13 points and six rebounds.
