FRESNO, Calif. -- Fresno State swimming and diving won the 2015 Beach Cup for the second straight year thanks to an impressive showing on Saturday afternoon at the Aquatics Center. The Bulldogs finished with 887 points to beat San Diego (549 points), Loyola Marymount (443) and Pepperdine (218).
"I am really happy with the meet today," Fresno State head coach Jeanne Fleck said. "For how cold it was today for us to compete as well as we did is great. It wasn't just one person, it was a lot of people swimming well, so I was really happy."
The Bulldogs opened the day with a win in the 200 Freestyle Relay. Leah Hatayama, Hannah Jarvis, Tarryn Rennie and Dana Jones combined to swim a 1:36.85 in the win.

Junior Brooke Rodriguez swam a season-best 1:03.65 to win the 100 Breaststroke. Her time is good for the No. 9 spot in the Mountain West this season. Hailee Baldwin swam a 1:07.15 to finish third. Later in the day, Baldwin won the 200 Breaststroke with a time of 2:20.15.
In the 100 Backstroke, freshman Allison Short swam finished in 58.19 seconds to win the event. Fresno State swimmers also finished in the 5-6-7 slots.
The Bulldogs closed out the first session with a 1-2 sweep of the 400 Medley Relay. Gullick, Rodriguez, Hatayama and Tarryn Rennie finished with a time of 3:53.36 to win the event by more than three seconds.
Junior Kelly Simmons had a solid swim in the 1650 Freestyle, winning with a season-best time of 17:09.08. Her time is the 14th-best time in the Mountain West this season.
Fresno State dominated the 200 Backstroke, finishing in each of the top five spots. Gullick won the event with a 2:05.53. She was followed by teammates Lindsay Ruiz, Kali Conlon, Karissa DeRousseau and Allison Short.
Fresno State divers finished 1-2 in the 3-meter diving event. Sophomore Shelbie Holden scored a 296.25 to win and junior Lacie Ruth scored a lifetime-best 272.02 to finish second. The divers will now head to Los Angeles to compete in the UCLA Diving Invitatonal on Sunday and Monday.
"It's good because it boosts their confidence that they can do these dives and can compete," Fresno State diving coach Taryn Patrick said. "Doing that going into UCLA should give them more confidence for this weekend."
The divers will dive the 3-meter again tomorrow at UCLA and then dive on Platform on Monday. The swimmers will be back in action on Saturday, January 31 when they compete in a dual at San Jose State.
