'Dogs Fall on the Road at Bakersfield

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- The Fresno State swimming and diving team returned to action after more than a month off and fell in a close dual meet to Bakersfield, 156-143 at the Hillman Aquatic Center.
The Bulldogs won three events on the day in the meet that also featured Mountain West Conference foe UNLV. Fresno State swam against the Rebels and Roadrunners, but was not scored against UNLV.
Kelly Simmons picked up the first Bulldog win. The junior swam a 5:05.65 in the 500 Freestyle to win by almost a full two seconds over Bakersfield's Michaela Page.
In the 200 Breaststroke, Hailee Baldwin swam her way to a victory. The sophomore from Turlock, Calif, swam a 2:21.37 to hold off UNLV's Lina Rathsack by .15 seconds. In the same race, Fresno State's Brooke Rodriguez finished third with a 2:25.86.
Diver Shelbie Holden won the 1-meter diving event with a score of 248.40. The sophomore from Carmichael, Calif., also finished second on the 3-meter board with a 252.90. Holden has already qualified for NCAA Zones, which will take place in March in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Fresno State gets right into competition again this weekend with a dual meet on Saturday against Cal State East Bay. The `Dogs and Pioneers will get underway at noon at the Aquatics Center.
