FRESNO, Calif. - Three Fresno State swimmers will participate in the AT&T Winter National Championships Thursday through Saturday and three Bulldog divers will compete at the Georgia Fall Invitational at Gabrielsen Natatorium in Athens, Ga., Friday through Sunday.
Winter Nationals are swum in long course meters and will serve as a FINA-approved competition where swimmers can achieve qualifying times for the 2016 Olympic Games. The events will be held at Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way, Wash.
Senior Leah Hatayama will swim in the 50 freestyle on Thursday in an attempt to make her Olympic trial cut of 26.19 seconds and senior Brooke Rodriguez will swim in the 100 breaststroke on Friday in an effort to make her Olympic trial cut of 1:11.49. The U.S. Olympic trials will be held in Omaha, Neb., next summer.
Freshman Ugne Mazutaityte will swim in the 100 backstroke on Friday and the 200 back on Saturday in an attempt to make the FINA cut to represent Lithuania in the Olympics. She will need to swim a 2:10.60 to make the A standard to automatically qualify in the 200 back and a 1:02.36 in the 100 back to make the B time. Mazutaityte can also break Lithuania's records in both events. She currently holds the record in the 200 back with a 2:14.00 and needs to go 1:02.05 or better for the 100 back.
