Mazutaityte Named MW Swimmer of the Week

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Fresno State freshman Ugne Mazutaityte (pronounced OOG-nuh mah-joo-TY-tee-tuh) has been named Mountain West Swimmer of the Week for competition completed from Nov. 23 through Dec. 20, 2015, the league office announced Tuesday.
This is the first weekly conference award of Mazutaityte's career and she is the first freshman in the conference to earn the distinction this season.
"We're really excited for Ugne and our program that she earned this honor," Fresno State head coach Jeanne Fleck said. "Ugne has done a great job and having her get one as a freshman is just awesome. We are very proud of what Ugne has done already this season and she's only going to get better."
This is also Fresno State's first MW swimmer of the week since Dani Yoho garnered the honor back on Oct. 17, 2012. Later that season, Yoho went on to win Fresno State's first-ever MW individual championship when she won the 50 freestyle with a school-record breaking time of 22.39.
Mazutaityte, a freshman originally from Kaunas, Lithuania, set the national Lithuanian records in the 100-yard backstroke (54.04) and 200-yard backstroke (1:55.47) at the 2015 AT&T Winter National Championships from Dec. 2-5 in Federal Way, Washington.
Both times currently rank second in the Mountain West this season and are NCAA `B' cut marks.
Prior to coming to Fresno State this season, Mazutaityte earned a second-place finish in the 100 Backstroke at the European Junior Championship and a third-place finish in the 200 back in the European Youth Olympic Festival. She is a member of Lithuanian National Team and participated in World Championship 2013 BC and the 2014 Youth Olympic Games.
The next Mountain West Women's Swimmer & Diver of the Week will be announced on Tuesday, Jan. 5.
