SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. --- The Fresno State men's basketball team got off to a slow start and struggled to find its shooting stroke in losing 77-65 at Cal Poly on Saturday night at Mott Gymnasium.
Senior guard Cezar Guerrero paced Fresno State (6-2) with 15 points, Torren Jones added 13 and Marvelle Harris had 12. The Bulldogs were held to 35 percent shooting from the field and just 5 of 22 from long range. Fresno State did not score until almost five minutes into the game.
"For whatever reason, we started slow and weren't making shots," Fresno State head coach Rodney Terry said. "We've got to spend more time in the gym working on our shooting. We knew Cal Poly had some really good players who could shoot the ball and they did that tonight."
Cal Poly's Taylor Sutlive scored 16 points on 5-for-5 shooting for the Mustangs, while Luke Meikle added 15 points, Reese Morgan had 14 and Joel Awich had 10. Cal Poly (5-3) hit 50 percent of its 44 shots from the field and was 25 of 35 from the line. Sutlive sank all three of his shots from behind the arc.
The Bulldogs trailed 30-24 at halftime and the Mustangs quickly extended its lead in the second half and led by double digits for most of the second half.
Fresno State finished the game outrebounding Cal Poly 41-38 and only turned the ball over six times. However, the Mustangs had 35 free throw attempts while the 'Dogs got just 17 in a physical contest.
Fresno State will wrap up its two-game road swing when the Bulldogs travel to play at No. 19/14 Arizona (7-1) on Wednesday at 6 p.m. PT on the Pac-12 Networks and 940 AM ESPN Radio.
