Volleyball Adds Aleksandra Simeonova to Roster

FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State head volleyball coach Lauren Netherby-Sewell has added outside hitter Aleksandra Simeonova to her roster. Simeonova, an incoming freshman, is enrolled in school for this spring semester.
A 5-11 native of Sofia, Bulgaria, Simeonova comes to Fresno State with championship experience on the international level where she had played in the Bulgarian and French Junior Championship leagues.
Simeonova played for CSKA-SOFIA from 2012-13, which is a top team in Bulgaria and in that time she helped lead her team to five Bulgarian Junior Championships as well as the Bulgarian Women's Cup.
In 2014, Simeonova played in the France Women's Championship and France Junior Championship. She led her Bordeaux team to the 2014 France Women's Championship League title where she also was named the MVP of the finals. Bordeaux also took third place in the French Junior Women's Cup (Coupe de France).
Other MVP awards she collected in her career include one in 2010 when she was selected to play in the World Sports Festival in Vienna, where she also led her team to a first-place finish, a 2011 MVP in the Bulgarian High School Championship, a 2012 MVP in American College Championship Sofia and a 2013 MVP in Sports Tournament Thomas Jefferson. Simeonova was a team captain in the World Sports Festival in Vienna, of her team in the American College Championship Sofia and in the Sports Tournament Thomas Jefferson.
Simeonova comes from an athletic family as her mother, Boriana Vlasinska, played professional volleyball in Bulgaria from 1989-92 and her father, Simeon Simov, was also a professional basketball player in Bulgaria. Additionally, her grandfather was a professional volleyball player in Bulgaria from 1962-70 and a professional volleyball coach from 1971-81.
She will wear No. 17 at Fresno State.
