`Dogs Fall 16-4 at Furman

GREENVILLE, S.C. - The Fresno State lacrosse team concluded its East Coast road trip with a 16-4 defeat at Furman on Sunday at Paladin Stadium.
Freshman Nicole Ortlieb tallied the game's opening goal just before four minutes had passed to give Fresno State (1-3) an early lead. Junior Anjelica Fuccillo made it 2-0 less than three minutes later on a free position shot, but Furman (4-0) countered as Paige Gamble scored off a free position shot of her own four minutes later.
With 16:29 on the clock, Caroline Dineen-Carlson pushed the Bulldogs' advantage back to two at 3-1. The Paladins shut out the 'Dogs for the remainder of the half, scoring three unanswered goals in the final 10 minutes. With her second goal of the game, Meg Lingo gave Furman their first lead of the game at 4-3 on a free position shot with three seconds remaining until halftime.
Early in the second period, Furman quickly pushed its lead to 6-3 as Gamble and in Lingo found the back of the net with a 14-second span. Ten minutes later, senior Holly Cisneros cut Fresno State's deficit to two with her first goal of the season.
Similar to the first period, the Paladins held the Bulldogs scoreless for the final 16-plus minutes. Furman scored 10 goals during the remainder of the game, with Lingo finding the back of the net twice to add to her game-high five goals, and the Paladins' leading goal scorer Britt Douglass scored four times.
The Bulldogs will return to Fresno, Calif., as the team prepares for its home opener against Campbell on March 4. The game is scheduled to start at 7 p.m., PT, at the Fresno State Soccer & Lacrosse Field.
