COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.- After helping the Fresno State softball team (22-10, 3-0 MW) to a three-game sweep over Colorado State last weekend, Jill Compton landed her second consecutive Mountain West Pitcher of the Week accolade in announcement by the conference on Tuesday morning.
Appearing in all three games held March 20-22, Compton won both of her starts over the weekend with a pair of five-inning run rule victories at Colorado State. The Bulldog ace pitched a total of 12 innings during the conference opener and allowed just two runs (one earned) to post a 0.58 earned run average.
Winning the series opener on Friday, the junior right-hander helped the `Dogs to a 9-0 victory giving up only three hits and had four strikeouts without walking a batter in the five-inning stretch against the Rams.
Compton made her second appearance of the weekend on Saturday, pitched two scoreless innings and gave up a lone hit in the seventh to help Fresno State to a 3-1 decision.
In what was her eleventh complete game of the season, the junior earned her second start of the series and went the distance of five innings, striking out eight batters and walking one as the team claimed an 11-2 run-rule victory.
With 132 strikeouts in 26 game appearances this season, Compton (13-7) has earned a 21st place national ranking for the most strikeouts according to the latest NCAA Women's Softball Rankings.
This week's honor marks the second conference accolade Compton has received this season and fifth career Mountain West honor for the righty pitcher.
The Fresno State softball team will be back in action on Friday, March 27 for the `Dogs conference opener against San Jose State at Margie Wright Diamond. The Bulldogs look to extend its four-game winning streak as they host the Spartans for the second Mountain West conference series of the season.
