No. 43 `Dogs Finish MW Season Undefeated

LAS VEGAS - With a 4-1 win at UNLV's Fertitta Tennis Complex on Saturday, the No. 43 Fresno State women's tennis team ended the year undefeated in the Mountain West for the second straight season.
"To be undefeated in conference in back-to-back years is a tremendous accomplishment and took a great amount of effort from the entire team and staff," head coach Ryan Stotland said. "It has taken many dedicated hours, but we can all be very proud of what we have achieved. We want to bring this momentum with us to the conference championships next week as we look forward to defending our championship."
The Bulldogs (17-4, 6-0 MW) claimed the doubles point as the teams of Maiar and Rana Sherif Ahmed and Anneka and Sophie Watts earned their 21st and 13th wins of the season together.
Paolo Artiga leveled the dual match at 1-1 for the Rebels (7-16, 1-4 MW) to start singles play, earning a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 3 over Rana Sherif Ahmed. Fresno State, though, finished the home side off with three straight-set matches.
Maiar Sherif Ahmed started off the stretch of wins at No. 1 with a 6-3, 6-2 defeat of Anett Ferenczi-Bako. Anne Susdorf followed by allowing just one point to Mercedes Lopez Velez as she won 6-0, 6-1. No. 82 Sophie Watts then clinched the dual match for the `Dogs on Court Two, improving her winning streak to 21, by topping Santa Shumilina 6-1, 6-3.
Fresno State will now turn their attention toward the Mountain West championship which runs from April 22-26 in Albuquerque, N.M. All matches will be streamed on the Mountain West Network.
