Third Consecutive MW Honor for Compton

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.- Of the 11 Mountain West Pitcher of the Week accolades issued this season, Jill Compton has claimed the last three giving the junior Bulldog five on the season and eight career wise. The announcement came on Tuesday morning following a three-game conference sweep over Boise State April 17-19.
Compton went the distance of 16.1 innings over the weekend and claimed all three Bulldog victories against the Broncos, two as the starting pitcher and one in relief. In her three-game showing she allowed just two runs and posted a .043 earned run average.
The Oceano, Calif., native struck out a total of 15 batters, tying her personal game high of 10 strikeouts on Sunday, and allowed only one walk on the weekend. The `Dogs 5-0 finale on Sunday afternoon marked Compton's 12th shutout of the season with six coming during the regular season.
Fresno State won the conference series opener on Friday night, 4-2 with Compton allowing only one earned run while striking out four. After closing out the final 2.1 innings on Saturday, giving up just one hit, the junior righty returned to the circle on Sunday tossing her second complete game against Boise State.
Compton holds a team-best of 189 strikeouts this season logging a No. 24 national ranking while tying at the No. 8 spot with 22 victories, according to the latest NCAA Women's Softball Statistics.
The junior guides the Fresno State pitching staff tossing 20 complete games, with 38 appearances and a total of 198.1 innings in the circle for the `Dogs this season. In addition to Compton's pitching honors, two Bulldogs were named MW Player of the Week earlier in the season.
Fresno State's two-week home stand continues this weekend as the `Dogs host Nevada (April 24-26) at Margie Wright Diamond.
