WOODLAND, Calif. - The Mountain Pacific Sports Federation announced on Friday morning that 10 members of the Fresno State lacrosse team were selected to the 2015 All-Academic team for their achievements in the classroom.
"I'm extremely proud of our team for breaking records on the field this year, but most importantly, I am proud of us achieving our goals in the classroom," head coach Jessica Giglio said. "As a team we had a 3.34 GPA for the semester and an overall 3.39 for the school year. This has been the highest GPA the women's lacrosse team has received since the inception of the program in 2008. As a coaching staff we want these young women to go on and have successful careers after their days of playing Fresno State lacrosse are over. With much support from our academic staff, especially our advisor Terence Wan, we are confident that they will succeed in future professions. We look forward to next year with more growth on the playing field as well as continuing our high standards in the classroom."
Seniors Holly Cisneros and Marcy Levatino became three-time MPSF All-Academic honorees. Sophia Aragon, Jordyn Frew, Anjelica Fuccillo, Meghan Macaulay and Meganne Weissenfels were named to the All-Academic team for the second time. Brooke Filgo, Chelsea Hall and Kyleigh Westgarth earned a spot on the team for the first time in their careers.
Macaulay, a junior majoring in political science, was the only MPSF lacrosse player on the list to obtain a 4.0 cumulative grade point average.
To qualify for the distinction, the student-athletes needed to achieve a 3.0 or better cumulative GPA, be at least a sophomore academically, completed one full academic year at the institution prior to the season, and competed in 50 percent of the institution's competitions.
