FRESNO, Calif.- In an effort to get as many student-athletes out in the Valley on the same day, the Fresno State Student-Athlete Advisory Committee hosted 'Dogs Make a Difference Day on Saturday, May 2.
On this day Fresno State had over 75 student-athletes from eight different teams out giving back to the community that supports them relentlessly.
"We came up with the idea for 'Dogs Make a Difference Day' through our previous affiliation with Saturday Sports," said SAAC President and lacrosse player Marcy Levatino. "As student-athletes, there is nothing that brings us more joy than encouraging kids to stay active."
Seven different teams went out to five different Saturday Sport locations around Fresno this past weekend, including lacrosse, women's tennis, football, volleyball, swimming and diving, women's basketball and soccer.
A program hosted by Every Neighborhood Partnership, Saturday Sports provides an outlet for young students to interact with positive role models during the weekend while creating an opportunity for volunteers to build relationships with the students.
"Fresno State SAAC thought it was important to establish a singular day in which our student-athletes could go out and assist at several locations as our way of giving back to the Valley, which shows its never ending support of everything we do as Bulldogs," added Levatino.
In addition to SAAC's involvement in Saturday Sports this past weekend, the women's golf team volunteered their time working the Derby Downs event that was put on by Valley Children's Hospital.
Leaders in the community, Fresno State student-athletes have combined for over 4,100 hours this past year.
