FRESNO, Calif. -- Fresno State volleyball head coach Lauren Netherby-Sewell announced the signing of transfer Aleisha Coates. Her addition brings this year's signing class to six.
Coates, a 5-11 outside hitter from Victorville, Calif., transfers to Fresno State from New Mexico State where she played in 125 sets during her two seasons with the Aggies. The rising junior will be eligible immediately and have two years remaining.
"With several freshmen coming into our program in 2015, we've been on the hunt for a strong transfer who can play, lead and execute right away. Aleisha fits the bill," Netherby-Sewell said. "She's a six-rotation outside hitter who plays high and has terminating power. She'll complement our current team well."
As a freshman during the 2013 season, Coates played in more than twice as many matches (85) as she did as a sophomore. In 2013 she was tied for third on the team in service aces (18) while posting the second highest service ace per set percentage for the Aggies. The outside hitter also had 95 kills and 96 digs during her freshman campaign, posting a career-high nine kills at Cal.
In two seasons at New Mexico State, Coates totaled 123 kills and 110 digs.
