FRESNO, Calif. - The College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) released its Scholar All-America Teams, which recognized the Fresno State swimming and diving team for its success in the classroom.
The Bulldog swimming and diving team posted a team GPA of 3.42 this past 2014-15 academic year, which was the highest team GPA the program has had in the last eight seasons.
In all the CSCAA designated a record 406 collegiate swimming and diving programs as Scholar All-America Teams. The recognition comes as a result of the programs' classroom performance in the past semester. It is the first time in the program's 30-plus year history of the program that more than 600 teams, representing 406 institutions received the designation.
"Swimmers and divers truly embody the student-athlete ethos and are well-known for earning some of the highest GPAs on campus," said CSCAA executive director Joel Shinofield. "This shows that across the board, our coaches and teams' are serving the mission of their universities and athletic departments."
Fresno State had 21 members on its swimming and diving team with cumulative GPAs of 3.0 or higher, including a dozen that are at 3.5 of higher.
