FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State volleyball team welcomes freshmen Sabrina Winslow and Madelyn Halteman as the final additions to its 2015 roster, bringing the incoming class to eight.
Winslow is a six foot, local outside hitter from Clovis North High School. The four-year varsity letterwinner helped the Broncos to a runner-up finish in both the Tri-River Athletic Conference (TRAC) and California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) Central Section in 2014.
The Clovis, Calif., native was named all-tournament, all-League, first-team all-conference, Clovis North's Best Offensive Player, Offensive MVP, and a Central Valley All-Star while claiming the Coaches Award and Offensive Excellence Award at the conclusion of her senior season.
"Sabrina is a workhorse. She's had a blistering swing since she was young. A local kid, she'll be a fan favorite and has loads of potential we're excited to tap into. With some experience, we think she'll be a six-rotation pin hitter strengthening us on both sides of the ball."
Halteman joins the 2015 Bulldog roster as a 5-foot-10 setter out of Pitman High School in Turlock, Calif., helping the Pride to a Central California Conference (CCC) Championship, San-Joaquin Division I Section Championship, 2014 Nor-Cal Division I Championship and a runner-up finish at the California State Division I Finals her senior year.
"Maddy will likely redshirt her first year to gain experience. This kid is a winner and plays at a high level. She loves the game and sets a fast, consistent game. We like her size and athletic ability. She's the setter of our future and we're pumped to add her to our roster."
The three-year varsity letterwinner is coming off an impressive senior season, where she earned CCC Setter of the Year, Pitman High School Most Valuable Player, CCC All-Tournament, Stockton Classic All-Tournament and Harbor High All-Tournament honors while listed as a finalist for the Stanislaus Athlete of the Year.
Fresno State will begin its 2015 slate on Friday, Aug. 28th at the Western Carolina Tournament in Cullowhee, N.C., following the annual alumnae exhibition match on Saturday, Aug. 22. The ‘Dogs schedule is highlighted with a home-court advantage during eight non-conference games, one exhibition matchup and nine home games coming during the regular season starting Sept. 24 against San Jose State.
