FRESNO, Calif. – Fresno State women's lacrosse team hosted the New Zealand national team Tuesday night in an exhibition match at the Fresno State Soccer and Lacrosse Field. The Bulldogs edged out New Zealand 12-8, led by sophomore Sarah Bloise with four goals.
"Sarah has grown a lot from last season," said head coach Jessica Giglio. "She's a player that we are excited to watch grow and improve over the season. She can be a real leader for us on attack."
Both teams came out firing on offense; the match was tied four times. Fresno State pulled away from New Zealand after senior Caroline Dineen-Carlson scored back-to-back goals putting the Bulldogs up 9-7.
"We grew a lot as a team tonight," Giglio said. "It was a great opportunity to play a national team while they are getting ready to compete in the World Cup. We created a lot of scoring opportunities that we just need to finish."
Seven different Bulldogs, including freshmen Olivia Mannon, Kayla Galet and Tiffany Wallace, scored Fresno State's 12 goals.
"It was a great learning experience for the freshman on the team, this was the first time they got to play a full game," Giglio said. "It was a great opportunity for them to play in an exhibition match before we start season in February."
The Fresno State lacrosse team will host their annual Alumnae Game on Oct. 29 at 12 p.m. PT on the Soccer and Lacrosse Field.
