FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State senior libero Maggie Eppright has been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District 8 First Team, the organization announced on Thursday.
Eppright, an interior design major who carries a 3.93 GPA, is the first 'Dog since Marissa Brand in 2013 to earn a CoSIDA Academic All-District honor. Eppright, who is now eligible to become a CoSIDA Academic All-American, earns this accolade after also earning CoSIDA Academic All-District Second Team honors as a sophomore in 2014.
"Maggie is an earner," said head coach Lauren Netherby-Sewell. "She works, not for reward, but because she's driven to learn, succeed and do right by her team. She's been reliable all four years she's been a bulldog and I am proud and excited she is being recognized."
Eppright joins Brand (2012, 2013) and Cecilia Agraz (2011) as 'Dogs who have earned CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team honors. Agraz went on to be named a Second-Team Academic All-American.
A three-time Academic All-Mountain West selection in her Bulldog career, Eppright currently sits second in program history in digs (1,695) and digs per set (3.87). In the 'Dogs sweep over New Mexico on Oct. 1, Eppright moved into the top 10 all-time in Mountain West history in digs and currently sits seventh all-time in the MW. With six matches remaining in the season, Eppright is 84 digs shy of moving past Allison Davies (UNLV, 2011-14) for fifth place on the all-time list.
The San Luis Obispo native, who will move into the top 10 in program history tonight against Nevada in matches played with 120, is fifth in the Mountain West this season in digs (323) and sixth in digs per set (3.71). She has posted 21 double-digit dig games, including a season-high 22 at Boston College (Aug. 27), and has led the team in digs in 22 contests.
The 2016 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District™ Volleyball Teams have been released to recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. The Academic All-District™ teams include the student-athletes listed on the following pages and are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. This is the sixth year of the expanded Academic All-America® program as CoSIDA moved from recognizing a University Division (Division I) and a College Division (all non-Division I) and has doubled the number of scholar-athletes honored.
The expanded teams include NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III participants, while the College Division Academic All-America® Team combines NAIA, Canadian and two-year schools. The Division II and III Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures, to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2016-17 DII and DIII Academic All-America® teams program. First-team Academic All-District™ honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
