No. 9 Bulldogs ride past No. 6 Gamecocks in 10-8 victory

Senior Taylor Brown earned a Most Outstanding Player honor for her performance in Horsemanship
FRESNO, Calif. – The No. 9 Fresno State equestrian team defeated No. 6 South Carolina for the second time in program history with a 10-8 victory on Friday afternoon at the Fresno State Student Horse Center.

The Bulldogs (5-2) began the competition down 4-1 as the Gamecocks (3-2) owned advantage in Equitation Over Fences, with Maddy Keck earning the lone point for the 'Dogs in a 78-74 victory. But Fresno State kept things close in Reining, as each team earned two points, with Kara Gustafson (74-66.5) and Shea Gilson (71-70.5) getting wins for the Bulldogs, and going into the break with the Gamecocks owning a 6-3 lead.

Fresno State came out strong in Horsemanship, outscoring South Carolina 4-0, getting points from Taylor Brown (76-67), Taylor Dixon (76-74.5), Taeya Harle (73-65.5) and Maddison Robinson (74.5-72).

With a 7-6 lead, the Bulldogs needed an advantage in Equitation on the Flat, and saw clutch performances by Kylina Chalack (79-69), Alexandra Dirickson (79-75) and Natalie Wendt (66-62) to get the victory.

Brown earned a Most Outstanding Player honor for her performance in Horsemanship.

Fresno State returns to action Feb. 10-11, 2017 as the Bulldogs head to the state of Texas to face SMU and TCU, respectively.
