OGDEN, Utah. – Trailing by six at the half, Fresno State rallied with a nine-point advantage in the third quarter before holding on for a 60-57 win on the road against Weber State at the Dee Events Center. It was the Bulldogs' second road win of the season.
Weber State (6-5) jumped out to a 12-2 lead as the Bulldogs went more than five minutes without a point after making its opening basket. After the slow start, Fresno State (7-4) hit a 7-0 run in the second quarter to pull back with one, but Deeshyra Thomas responded for Weber State by knocking down a 3. The Bulldogs grabbed its first lead of the game with 3:03 remaining in the first half but it was short-lived as the Wildcats hit three of its last four shots and ended the half on a 7-0 run to take a 32-26 lead into the half.
Thomas knocked down a 3-pointer to open the second half and push Weber State's lead to nine, but the 'Dogs locked down and got into transition as they went on a 9-0 run to pull even at 35-35. Fresno State built its lead up to four with 2:10 on the clock with a pair at the line from Faz Davalos.
The game remained close throughout the remainder of the contest. The 'Dogs managed to build its lead up to seven midway through the fourth quarter behind a stretch of eight straight points from Faz Davalos. A 5-0 spurt from the Wildcats pulled them within two, but Candice White, who was in foul trouble much of the game, drained a 3 with 4:07 on the clock to give the Bulldogs some breathing room.
How It happened: Leading 57-55 with 19 seconds on the clock, Faz Davalos forced a tough shot from Thomas that rimmed off and White grabbed the rebound. The guard was immediately fouled and calmly sank both of the ensuing free throws.
After Weber State pulled back within two at the line, Faz Davalos made 1-of-2 from the foul line to give Fresno State a three-point lead with under three seconds remaining. Tough defense from White on the inbound forced a difficult shot attempt from Kailie Quinn that drifted right of the basket.
