Ringing in the New Year: Alex White
12/27/2016 12:52:00 PM | Women's Lacrosse
FRESNO, Calif. - As senior captain Alex White gears up for the 2017 season she took time with GoBulldogs.com to reflect on 2016 and what she wants out of 2017.
The senior attacker made six starts and appeared in 12 games a season ago. White scored a career-high two goals against Saint Mary's (April 24) and grabbed a career-high two ground balls in games against Colorado (Feb. 21), at Cal (April 3) and at UC Davis (April 19) during her junior season.
White touched on everything from the biggest lesson she learned in 2016, what she would like to accomplish in 2017 and everything in between.
Q: What is the first thing that comes to your head when you think of 2016?
White: It has been such a great year, but it makes me sad! This was my last full year as a student-athlete at Fresno State and my last full year being with all of my amazing teammates.
Q: What is the biggest lesson that you've learned in the last year?
White: That hard work and perseverance really pays off. I've also learned the importance of believing in myself, that's really helped me succeed this year.
Q: How has your position on the team evolved over the last year?
White: I have a much bigger leadership role on my team this year, as an upperclassman and as a team captain.
Q: What was your theme song for 2016?
White: The first song I think of when I think back to this year is "Juju on that Beat". Every time I hear that song, I picture my teammates, Emily Miller, Ryleigh Bone and Marina Mayo dancing to that song and it just makes me so happy.
Q: What are you looking forward to most about the 2017 season?
White: Having one last opportunity to represent Fresno State on the field and playing with my fellow seniors and the rest of my team. I have been playing with Caroline [Dineen-Carlson], Kyleigh [Westgarth] and Chelsea [Hall] pretty much since I started playing lacrosse in eighth grade and I am happy to have one last season to play alongside them.
Q: What are your goals for your final season as a Bulldog?
White: I want to advance to the conference playoffs this season!
Q: What is your theme song for 2017?
White: "Confident" by Demi Lovato - I really put a lot of pressure on myself to succeed, but sometimes I just need to be a little more confident in myself and my abilities so this song kind of reminds me of that.
Q: What do you want to work harder at in 2017?
White: I want to be a really good leader and role model for my teammates and just be there for them both on and off the field.
Q: What is something that you'd like to spend more time doing in 2017?
White: Producing! I am really excited to start my career as a news producer this coming year.
Q: What is your New Year's resolution?
White: I want to help out in my community. I really want to make more of an impact in Fresno and San Diego by helping local dog shelters and volunteering with other organizations.
Q: What is a destination that you would like to visit in 2017?
White: My family and I are most likely going to be going on a safari in South Africa once I graduate.
Q: What is your best memory of being a Bulldog?
White: Honestly, I can't narrow it down to just one. This is just an amazing family that I am a part of and there have just been so many moments — both on and off the field — that I will remember forever. The Karaoke sessions on road trips and just our crazy dance parties in the locker room have to be up there on my list.
