Borst named to Preseason Stopper of the Year Watch List

FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State senior pitcher Tim Borst was of 70 pitchers nationally named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Preseason Stopper of the Year Watch List, the association announced Monday.
Given to the top relief pitcher in NCAA Division I baseball, Borst was one of only two Mountain West relievers to be selected joining Nevada's Evan McMahan.
As a junior in 2015, Borst went 4-4 with a 4.65 ERA while making 22 appearances, including five starts. He threw 50.1 innings notching 39 strikeouts and held pponents to a .240 batting average. He picked his lone save of the season at UNLV on May 10 tossing he final 1.1 innings to close out a 6-2 win for the 'Dogs.
The Moreno Valley native enters his final season at Fresno State with 62 career appearances on the mound. He has made 29 career starts, including a team-high 15 in 2014, and 33 relief appearances combining for an 11-11 overall record. He has posted a 3.76 career ERA in 206.0 innings pitched and 136 strikeouts. A three-time Academic All-MW selection, Borst currently leads the Bulldogs in career appearances, starts, wins, innings pitched and strikeouts.
The 2016 Stopper of the Year Watch List will be updated with a midseason release on Wednesday, April 27, including the national saves leaders. At the conclusion of the regular season, the Division I national saves leader and four other relief pitching standouts will be selected as finalists and released on Wednesday, June 8, prior to the start of NCAA Super Regional competition.
The NCBWA's All-America Committee will select the winner, with this year's recipient to be announced at the 2016 College World Series.
Borst and the Bulldogs officially open the 2016 season on Friday evening against Creighton with first pitch set for 6:05 p.m. at Pete Beiden Field. The `Dogs three-game series against the Bluejays is part of a nine-game home stand that jumpstarts 2016.
