FRESNO, Calif. – Fresno State redshirt junior goalkeeper Meganne Weissenfels has been named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Women's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week for games played March 6 through March 13, the MPSF announced Monday.
This is Weissenfels' second career weekly accolade and is the second Bulldog to receive a weekly honor this season. Freshman Sarah Bloise was named MPSF Rookie of the Week on Feb. 29.
As Fresno State's lone active goalkeeper last week, Weissenfels racked up 26 saves and allowed an all-time program-low four goals in the Bulldogs' 7-4 win over Furman last Monday. She also saved a season-high 11 goals and grabbed a game-high seven ground balls on Sunday at Oregon and had nine saves against George Mason last Friday.
Through the first eight games of the season, Weissenfels' 41 saves are tied for most in the MPSF and her 19 ground balls lead the team.
Fresno State returns to action March 23 as it hosts Drexel at the Soccer and Lacrosse Field at 5 p.m. PT. The game will air live on the Mountain West Network.
