FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State women's lacrosse team fell to the Drexel Dragons 15-5 on Wednesday night at the Fresno State Soccer and Lacrosse Field. Junior captain Caroline Dineen-Carlson led the Bulldogs with her eighth career hat trick, four draw controls and three ground balls.
Drexel (6-2, 0-0 CAA) and the Bulldogs (3-6, 0-3 MPSF) kept the game close at the start as the Dragons led 4-3 before Drexel scored six-straight goals to extend its lead to 10-3. Fresno State found the back of the net twice to pull within five goals with 23 minutes remaining, but the Dragons notched the final five goals of the game to seal their victory.
"We started off playing well, but we had ebbs and flows throughout the game," Fresno State head coach Jessica Giglio said. "Something we've been talking about is playing a full 60-minute game. There were too many moments in this game when we let Drexel have the advantage, when we could have stopped the play or capitalized on a turnover that we caused to get a goal."
Freshman Ryleigh Bone scored in her second-straight game and added three ground balls and two draw controls, while freshman Sarah Bloise also scored for the 'Dogs and added a draw control. Junior Kyleigh Westgarth recorded four draw controls and a ground ball and redshirt junior goalkeeper Meganne Weissenfels recorded a season-high 14 saves.
