FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State women's lacrosse team fell to No. 9 Stanford 18-6 on Friday evening at the Fresno State Lacrosse Field. Four different players scored for the Bulldogs; senior Anjelica Fuccillo tied the Fresno State all-time career points record and junior Kyleigh Westgarth tied the Fresno State single-season draw control record.
"We definitely were challenged by a really strong team today," Fresno State head coach Jessica Giglio said. "We talked to the players at halftime and we came out in the second half as a tied game, 5-5. We talked a little bit about resiliency, and over these next two games, we have to make sure we come out strong from the beginning."
Stanford (11-2, 6-0 MPSF) came out strong, scoring twice in the first three minutes of the game, but the Bulldogs answered back as junior captain Caroline Dineen-Carlson found the back of the net for the first of her two goals within the next minute. However, the Cardinal would score the next 11 and lead 13-1 at the half.
The Bulldogs (4-9, 1-6 MPSF) regrouped at halftime and would match Stanford's goals in the second half in which Fuccillo scored twice and Dineen-Carlson, sophomore Nicole Ortlieb and freshman Sarah Bloise each added goals of their own.
Fresno State junior Kyleigh Westgarth grabbed her 36th and 37th draw controls of the season, which ties the Fresno State single-season draw control record that she set as a freshman in 2014.
The 'Dogs will head to UC Davis on Tuesday at 4 p.m. PT and will wrap up the regular season at home against Saint Mary's on April 24 at 2 p.m. for Senior Day.
